With 15 different song categories, submit your entries by 27 May to be in with a chance of winning $50,000
Now in its 27th year, the USA Songwriting Competition is one of the world’s leading international songwriting contests. Open to everyone regardless of nationality or country of origin, you only have until 27 May 2022 to enter. Entrants can submit multiple compositions, either online or by mail, and there are 15 different categories to choose from including Pop, Rock/Alt, Folk, R&B, Hip-Hop, Jazz and Instrumental.
Giving songwriters and composers the chance to win a top prize of $50,000 and merchandise such as music gear, winning songs will also be played on the radio. As well as the prize money, merchandise and airplay, the competition has proved to be a great platform for songwriters. Following in the footsteps of other previous winners who have gone on to be signed by labels and nominated for awards, South African musician Wouter Kellerman (a winner in both 2017 and 2021) recently earned himself a Grammy nomination.
The top prize at the 26th Annual USA Songwriting Competition was won by Los Angeles songwriter Scott Oatley, who co-wrote his winning song with Jorge Mhondera and Jay Speight. Speaking of the win, he says, “I’m so glad to be awarded the Grand Prize in this year’s competition. I was an Honorable Mention winner two years ago, I see this as a huge improvement and testament to perseverance and dedication to my craft. It really means a lot to me to be validated and recognized in this way. It’s a happy by-product of all the hard work that has brought me to this point.”
